General Model Information:

Hyundai Accent
The current-generation Hyundai Accent dates back to 2006, when it was introduced in sedan body style only -- the two-door hatchback arrived a year later. Compared to its predecessor, this generation Hyundai featured sleeker and more upscale exterior styling (especially the hatchback) and a higher-quality interior. Interior room increased and as a result, average-size adults could get comfortable in the front or rear. There have been no major changes made to the Hyundai Accent other than a slight bump in fuel economy for '09, as well as the added options of cruise control and a sunroof. .

Hyundai Azera
The Hyundai Azera debuted in 2006 as an all-new replacement for the XG350. Initially, there were two trim levels offered: the Hyundai Azera SE and Azera Limited. These grew to three the next year when they were joined by the entry-level GLS. For '08, it was back to two trims, when the GLS received more standard features and essentially replaced the SE. That year also saw the addition of satellite radio, a navigation system and the Logic7 sound system to the features list. For '09, the Hyundai Azera's steering and suspension were revised, while different interior lighting, a new grille and a welcome iPod/USB audio jack were added.

Hyundai Elantra
The current Elantra is representative of the car's fourth generation which made its debut for model-year 2007. This latest model used Hyundai Elantra's have maintained all the strengths of the previous-generation model, including a low price, capable performance and a spacious cabin. But it also offers a much nicer interior and crisper-than-ever handling sure to breathe new life into its somewhat bland image. Three trims were initially available: the Hyundai GLS, SE and Limited. For '08, the Limited was dropped in favor of an options package available with the SE. That year also saw stability control and brake assist added to the SE's standard equipment. For '09, suspension and steering tuning were revised, while the USB/iPod audio jack was made available.

Hyundai Santa Fe
The present (second) generation Hyundai Santa Fe was introduced for 2007. Since then, only minor changes have occurred. The optional Infinity sound system and sunroof were made standard on the Limited for '08, while the following year saw a standard USB/iPod audio jack added to every Santa Fe. A towing prep package was also made standard. The original Hyundai Santa Fe was launched in 2001 as Hyundai's first foray into the SUV market. It was a solid effort. Sold until 2006, the initial model was notable for its pleasant ride and roominess. There were two engine options -- a 149-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 177-hp 2.7-liter V6. The used Hyundai Santa Fe is available in three trim levels (GL, GLS and LX) and with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Hyundai Sonata
Today's fourth-generation Hyundai Sonata dates back to the 2006 model year and is really the only version worth considering as a used car. Initially, three trim levels were offered: GL, GLS and LX. Today's GLS is equivalent to the original GL, while the Limited replaced the LX. The following year saw a shuffling of the trim levels to the current format. Most notably, the sporty Hyundai Sonata SE version debuted, wearing 17-inch alloy wheels and foglights. Originally, the 2.4-liter four-cylinder produced 162 hp and was standard on the GL and GLS trims. A five-speed manual was standard (GL only for 2006) and a four-speed automatic was optional with this engine. Optional on the GLS and standard on the LX, SE and Limited was a 235-hp version of the 3.3-liter V6, matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. For 2008, the four-cylinder became standard on all trim levels and the V6 became optional. That year also saw a few more standard features added to the SE and Limited trims.
